He says Malaysia will always be hospitable to refugees.
PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said it was inhumane for some countries to close their borders to refugees.
Referring to the issue of Syrian refugees, he said Malaysia would always be hospitable to refugees coming to the country.
“Despite their large numbers, we accepted them on humanitarian grounds,” he said, hoping European countries are more sympathetic towards refugees and allow them to enter.
“I understand some countries close their borders completely to refugees. That is not humane,” he told reporters after chairing a meeting of the Pakatan Harapan presidential council here.
On the bombing in Syria, Mahathir said Malaysia could only state it was wrong.
“There are even more powerful countries in a position to stop the bombing but they don’t want to.
“So, what do we do? We are a small country; we express our opinion.” - FMT
