Arshad Raji calls for a 'carnival-like atmosphere' of love and compassion and not a display of military might.
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Patriot Association of former servicemen has urged Malaysians to celebrate Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day in a carnival-like atmosphere.
Patriot’s president, retired general Mohamed Arshad Raji, said independence day celebrations should be about Malaysians showing their love and compassion for the country and fellow countrymen, Bernama reported. It should not be so much of a display of military might as in the past.
“Aug 31 and Sept 16 should be celebrated with a difference,” he said in a statement, “in a new spirit of rebirth.”
Patriots also called on the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia to quickly release the theme song “Kita Punya Malaysia” so that the people could learn to sing it.
Patriot will also distribute 5,000 pieces of Jalur Gemilang sponsored by its honorary member, property tycoon Lee Kim Yew, the statement said.
Yesterday, Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the National Day celebration next month would be held in Putrajaya while Sabah will host the national-level Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16. - FMT
