Fear of colleagues drove me to lodge report against Amri’s wife, says cop

The Special Branch officer says Norhayati Ariffin told him of her mistrust of the police.
Norhayati Ariffin claimed that she was informed by a police officer that her husband was abducted by a Bukit Aman team.
KUALA LUMPUR: A police officer from Perlis involved in the case of missing person Amri Che Mat said he decided to lodge a police report against the wife of the activist out of fear of his colleagues in the force.
Special Branch officer Mohd Shamzaini Mohd Daud said he felt pressured after Norhayati Ariffin claimed that he had met her and admitted that a police team from Bukit Aman had abducted her husband.
Shamzaini lodged a police report against Norhayati on May 16, disputing her claim that he had visited her home on May 12.
“There were all kinds of perceptions about me, so I felt the pressure and lodged a police report,” he told the Malaysian Human Rights Council’s (Suhakam) inquiry into Amri’s disapperance two years ago.
Shamzaini did not reveal why he felt the pressure.
He said he did not immediately lodge the report against Norhayati as he thought that she was emotional following her husband’s disappearance.
He said he had met Norhayati to inquire about renting a shop that belonged to her. Their discussion however veered into the topic of Amri’s abduction.
He said during their meeting, Norhayati gave him the impression that she had details on her husband’s fate.
“I told her, if she had such information, she should tell the police and Suhakam. She replied that she did not trust the police.”
Amri went missing on Nov 24, 2016.
His wife previously said that five vehicles had blocked his car before he was whisked away, some 500m from their home in Bukit Chabang, Perlis. -FMT
