FT religious affairs now come under Khalid’s ministry

Ministry will supervise urban well-being, Mufti's office, Islamic religious department, religous council, and zakat centres

Federal Territories minister Khalid Samad will now handle urban well-being and local religious affairs.

SHAH ALAM: Matters relating to “urban well-being” and Islamic religious affairs will now be handled by the Ministry of Federal Territories, said the minister Khalid Abdul Samad today.

Urban well-being was formerly part of the Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government, which is now the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.

The FT ministry would also take charge of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), Federal Territory Mufti’s Office and the Zakat-MAIWP collection centres, Khalid said today.

Earlier today, Khalid had said MPs in Kuala Lumpur would have a greater say in decision-making by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

He reiterated a call for Umno appointees on the DBKL advisory board to resign from their respective positions instead of being fired.

He said they should understand that the government of the day had changed.

“But if they insist that they need to follow the procedure, now, that is just a mere excuse. We would like them to keep their dignity, we do not want to fire them,” he said. -FMT
