‘I AM ELATED TO BE VIEWED AS FOLLOWING IN NAJIB’S FOOTSTEPS, HE WAS A GREAT LEADER’, DECLARES LOKMAN ADAM: SUNGAI KANDIS BY-ELECTION CANDIDATE ALSO OPTIMISTIC PAS WILL HELP UMNO BEAT HARAPAN FOR SEAT

KLANG – PAS could campaign for the rival Barisan Nasional in the three-cornered contest for Sungai Kandis if both parties agree to collaborate at the machinery level, said candidate Datuk Lokman Adam.
Lokman said there were already discussions at the divisional level and that he expects the Islamist party to start assisting his Umno party’s election machinery some time this week.
“I have spoken to some PAS leaders and chances are there for them to help us but I am speaking with Umno leaders and PAS’s division chiefs first.
“If all goes well, by this week we can see PAS helping us,” he told reporters at one of his walkabout programme.
The Umno supreme council member is facing PKR’s Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni and independent candidate K. Murthy in the race for the state seat.
PAS previously expressed intentions to contest the seat, but pulled out when Umno announced that it was fielding a candidate.
The seat fell vacant following the death of its assemblyman Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei from PKR on July 2 after battling lymphatic cancer.
The Sungai Kandis constituency has 51,230 registered voters comprising 51,217 ordinary voters and 13 overseas voters.
Polling for the by-election is set on August 4.
BN’S SG KANDIS HOPEFUL SAYS WOULD BE HUMBLED TO BE CALLED NAJIB’S PROTEGE
KLANG – Barisan Nasional’s Sungai Kandis candidate Datuk Lokman Noor Adam said today he would be glad if voters here likened him to a Datuk Seri Najib Razak “in the making”.
According to the Umno Supreme Council member, he would be elated to be viewed as following in Najib’s footsteps.
“Najib was a great leader. If I’m compared to him or if people think I am him in the making, it would be a great blessing to me.. I would be humbled,” he said when met with reporters.
On his election strategy to win, Lokman said among others was to inform voters of the unfulfilled election promises by Pakatan Harapan since winning the 14th general election.
“They (PH) have made all sort of promises before winning, but only two things that have gone down after they won one is share prices in the Bursa Malaysia and another is our currency,” he said.
The activist-turned-politician and former PKR member claimed there was nothing much he had to do or change from the previous BN’s election strategy used in GE14 to win the by-election.
According to Lokman, the previous BN strategy of meeting and greeting the people as well as holding small ceramahs among neighbourhood residents was good enough for him to win the state seat.
“Pakatan won by telling all sorts things about Najib but until today, there is no single proof to prove that the former prime minister had done anything wrong.
“Now, the voters can see for themselves who is lying and who is not,” he said, referring to several unfulfilled election promises by PH.
It has been over 70 days since PH has taken control of Putrajaya.
In that time, PH has zero-rated the goods and services tax (GST) and fixed the fuel prices instead of letting it fluctuate weekly, as was the case under the previous BN administration.
