Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, Petaling Jaya MP Maria Chin Abdullah and former Bersih 2.0 secretariat member Mandeep Singh are still awaiting a reply from the Attorney-General’s Chambers(AGC), with regards to a representation letter sent over a charge for participating in the 2015 Kita Lawan rally.
This was disclosed to magistrate Maizatul Munirah Abdul Rahman when the case was called up today.
Lawyer Vince Tan informed Maizatul Munirah that the representation letter was filed last month.
DPP Mohd Safarizal Zakaria told they are awaiting the outcome of the letter of representation.
Normally, a letter of representation is sent to apply to reduce or remove a charge.
Following that, Maizatul Munirah fixed Aug 3 for a mention of the case.
Sim, Maria and Mandeep were charged again in October last year for taking part in the Kita Lawan rally.
This comes after the trio were granted a dischargenot amounting to an acquittal on Aug 28 last year, after the deputy public prosecutor, in that case, failed to show up in court for the first day of its hearing.
They were charged under Section 4(2)(c) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for taking part in the Kuala Lumpur rally between 3.15pm and 6pm on March 28, 2015.
If convicted they stand to face a maximum fine of RM10,000, which would result in Sim - who is also deputy minister for agriculture and agro-based industry - and Maria eventually losing their seats. - Mkini
