MAHATHIR REPRIMANDS ALI HAMSA: DON’T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN, IT REFLECTS BADLY ON THE QUALITY OF THE GOVT & CIVIL SERVICE – PM FUMES OVER CHIEF SECRETARY’S INABILITY TO ADDRESS SOUND SYSTEM ISSUES DURING SWEARING-IN CEREMONY & DURING MACC’S BRIEFING TO MPs EARLIER THIS MONTH

THE country’s top civil servant was left red-faced after being slapped with a letter of reprimand by the prime minister for failing to address microphone problems that plagued the swearing-in process on Monday.
Dr Mahathir Mohamad called out Chief Secretary to the Government Ali Hamsa for failing to address persistent audio issues experienced during the ceremony in Parliament that was telecast live.
The letter to Ali, sighted by The Malaysian Insight, was issued yesterday by the prime minister’s chief private secretary, Badariah Arshad.
Aside from the swearing-in of the 222 MPs on Monday, Badariah also pointed to microphone problems plaguing a briefing by officers of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for lawmakers at Parliament on July 10.
“Your attention and cooperation in ensuring all future events are carried out with excellence and pride is expected and appreciated.”
Ali, 62, was appointed to his current post in June 2012 by former prime minister Najib Razak.
He was appointed director-general of the Public-Private Partnership unit in 2009 after serving at the Economic Planning Unit under the Prime Minister’s Department.
He has a PhD in environmental economics from Oklahoma State University. Ali was also an adviser at 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
Ali is slated to retire next month, Sinar Harian reported recently, adding that he will be replaced by former MACC chief Abu Kassim Mohammed. Abu Kassim has since told reporters he was not interested in the post.
