Following the resignation of a Selangor PKR youth wing figure today, two PKR division level office-bearers have come forward to repeat allegations of cronyism and nepotism in the party.
In a joint statement today, Sepang PKR division deputy chief Suziana Musa and Sepang PKR division women's wing chief M Nermala Dewi alleged that such practices came into play over the appointment of local government representatives, particularly for Sepang.
"We, the senior office-bearers of the division, were sidelined in favour of appointees who were not elected division office-bearers," said the duo.
They also alleged that some of the appointees had either criminal records or had lied about their academic qualifications.
The duo blamed a PKR divisional leader, also an officer in the state government, for making those appointments.
Earlier today, Selangor PKR Youth secretary Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman resigned to protest what he said was the way political appointments were made.
"It is clear that political appointments are only directed at those who show loyalty to certain factions and not because of merit," he said.
Following Syed Badli's resignation, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said that all political appointments were fair, consultative and democratic.
"Thus, the candidates selected were based on the fact that they had the capability and experience and were perceived as those capable of solving problems," he said in a statement. - Mkini
