Nga, Chong not in cabinet, DAP seeks to contain fallout

The DAP central executive committee is expected to discuss ways to address criticisms following Nga Kor Ming's and Chong Chieng Jen's absence from the cabinet line up.
According to multiple party sources, there is disgruntlement among party supporters and members. The matter will be on the agenda when the committee meets on Wednesday, said the sources.
During the run-up to the May 9 elections, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng had promised to recommend the duo as cabinet ministers should they be elected to parliament and Pakatan Harapan form the government.
Eventually, Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad appointed Chong as the domestic trade and consumer affairs deputy minister while there were no positions for Nga.
Chong is a four-term MP and three-term Sarawak legislative assembly member while Nga is a five-term Perak legislative assembly member and three-term MP. They respectively head the Sarawak and Perak chapters of DAP.
There were far more junior DAP lawmakers who are now on Mahathir's cabinet including three-term MP Gobind Singh Deo and first time MP Yeo Bee Yin.
Mahathir told reporters at Istana Negara today that he planned to have "two or three" more cabinet members they will comprising of senators and not elected lawmakers - thereby ruling out Nga.
When contacted, Nga said he will not comment on this and instead referred to his Twitter post.
"My sincere gratitude to all who love and support me regardless of whether it is raining or a shiny day. Please continue to support the Pakatan Harapan government led by our PM to rebuild our nation," he wrote. - Mkini
