Nurul: Wan Azizah will still be DPM even if not PKR president

INTERVIEW | The country's first female deputy prime minister, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, will remain Putrajaya's number two even if she is no longer PKR president, said party vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar.
"She will still be deputy prime minister, she will have to make sure work is cut-out for her and (she must) address many issues.
"I'm looking forward to her focussing on that particular role," Nurul Izzah told Malaysiakini in an interview on Tuesday.
However, the Permatang Pauh MP admitted that the dynamics in ruling coalition Pakatan Harapan will change if Wan Azizah, who is also her mother, is no longer helming PKR.
"It will definitely change, how the leadership responds to one another," she said when asked about how the dynamics in Harapan would be affected should Anwar Ibrahim become party president.
The de facto PKR leader had on Sunday revealed that he would be contesting for the president post. Prior to that, Wan Azizah(picture, below) has said that she would make way for her husband should he choose to do so.
A day after Malaysiakini's interview with Nurul Izzah, there was also speculation that certain factions in PKR were pushing for Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali to contest the party presidency.
Azmin, who is the incumbent deputy president, said he has yet to decide which position to contest.
His political secretary Hilman Idham, however, said that Azmin would not challengeAnwar.
As for Nurul Izzah herself, she has yet to decide whether to defend her post as vice-president.
"I will make an announcement when the time comes. Right now I'm completely inundated with work and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET)," she said. Nurul Izzah currently heads the committee overseeing TVET curriculum reforms.
She hoped, however, that she can carve a better future for Malaysia, especially for her two children Raja Nur Safiyah and Raja Harith.
"I want the future to be more equal, for the sake of my kids. I hope I can do that within my party, and through my party, as a vehicle to unite everybody.
"I believe strongly in nation building, not just winning elections per-say - its important in order to realise the vision - but more than that we must never lose sight of idealism," she said, adding that she looks forward to executing programmes meant to defend the rights of the impoverished. - Mkini
