Police reopen probe into Teoh Beng Hock’s death

The IGP says they have also completed a fresh investigation into the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.
Police will re-investigate the death of Teoh Beng Hock (left) while completing another new probe into the murder of Altantuya Shaariibuu.
PETALING JAYA: Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun today announced that police would reopen investigations into the death of Teoh Beng Hock.
He also said the police had completed a fresh investigation into the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu.
The Cabinet agreed last month on a new probe into the death of Teoh, 30, whose body was found on July 16, 2009 on the rooftop of a building adjacent to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Shah Alam.
Teoh, who was a political aide to DAP assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, had been summoned to give a statement over allegedly fraudulent disbursements of constituency allocations.
The Attorney-General’s Chambers in 2016 ruled that there was no criminal offence committed by MACC officers in connection with Teoh’s death.
The Cabinet agreed to a fresh probe following pleas by Teoh’s family.
“We were directed yesterday to reopen the case. Give us time to do it,” said Fuzi after receiving police vehicles donated by highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia today.
On the fresh investigation into the murder of Altantuya, he said the investigation papers would be submitted to the AG.
Last month, police said they would refer a statement recorded by Altantuya’s father, Shaariibuu Setev, to the deputy public prosecutor for further action.
Setev’s statement was recorded after he lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police district headquarters a day before.
His lawyer, Ramkarpal Singh, said the report was to ask the police to reopen investigations into the case.
Altantuya was shot and her body blown up with explosives in a secondary jungle in Mukim Bukit Raja, Klang, between 10pm on Oct 19 and 1am Oct 20, 2006. - FMT
