Batu Pahat Umno chief Mohd Puad Zarkashi has ticked off party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for supposedly failing to provide direction to Umno members.
He also questioned Zahid's decisions since becoming Umno president, such as the appointments of certain personalities to the Umno supreme council.
"I demand that Zahid immediately explain the party's direction to the Umno grassroots.
"Party members are directionless and confused due to Zahid being slow in explaining the party's decision at this critical time for Umno after losing power in the 14th general election.
"If he continues to remain silent, he will be seen as a leader incapable of bringing about change and Umno's revival," Puad said in a statement.
Puad, a former Umno supreme council member, said there were criticisms towards Zahid for sticking with the old Umno culture.
He said an example was Zahid appointing state Umno chiefs, supposedly without consultation.
"Although it is his prerogative (to make such appointments), Zahid should strengthen and unite the party.
"He should have the political will to eliminate the warlord culture in the party.
"This culture was the root cause of abuses in Umno's system," he said.
Puad also accused Zahid of only being "accommodative" towards his supporters.
"He chose and appointed people based on their loyalty to him and not based on merit, performance and commitment," he said.
For the same reason, Puad said certain names who should not be in the Umno supreme council had been appointed nonetheless.
He also urged Zahid to make clear Umno's stance on the proposal for the government to recognise the United Examination Certificate, in the interest of the Malay agenda. - Mkini
