Shahrir Samad Grilled For 7 Hours By MACC Regarding Party Funds

The Johor Bahru MP was asked about funds he received from former prime minister Najib Razak.

(FMT) – Former Johor Bahru MP Shahrir Samad left the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office here after being questioned for seven hours over funds received from former prime minister Najib Razak.
Speaking to reporters outside the MACC office, he said he was called to give his statement on the RM1 million cheque given by Najib in November 2013.
“I would be the last to know where the money originated from.
“As Johor Bahru Umno chief, I asked for funds from him to run activities at the division level,” he said, responding to questions on whether he knew the source of the money.
When asked if he would return the money, as what MACC chief commissioner Shukri Abdull had suggested, Shahrir said the money had been fully spent on political activities in Johor.
“Both my account and that of Johor Bahru Umno have been frozen.
“To me, the money was part of political funds and not illicit funds,” he said.
In 2015, Shahrir had admitted to receiving funds from Najib.
Sarawak Report had claimed that Shahrir received RM1 million after the 2013 general election while Pontian MP Ahman Maslan allegedly received a cheque for RM2 million.
