PETALING JAYA: PKR will do a second dry run of its online voting system in a “few days time” to test its effectiveness, a senior party leader said.
PKR supreme council member Sivarasa Rasiah said the dry run would be observed by party leaders.
“We are still evaluating it,” he said when asked to comment on concerns raised by several PKR leaders over the proposed use of the e-voting system.
He was speaking at the PKR Hari Raya open house in Kota Damansara here today.
Several party leaders have raised questions about the security and integrity of the software.
PKR Wanita deputy chief Haniza Talha, noted that countries such as Britain and Germany had stopped using the e-voting system because there was no possibility of recalculation in the event of any doubtful decision.
When asked if the system would be scrapped if it was ineffective, Sivarasa, who is Sungai Buloh MP, said it was up to the party leadership.
“Let’s not jump to conclusions.”
PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said last month that an “e-voting” system would be used for the party elections between August and September.
All party members would be allowed to vote, making PKR the only political party with leaders directly elected by members.
On a related matter, Sivarasa said he had yet to decide on whether he would run for any post in the coming election. -FMT
