Newly minted Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof resigned from all his posts in Amanah ON July 1, according to the party's secretary-general Mohd Anuar Tahir.
Speaking after the swearing-in of new MPs at Parliament today, Anuar said Ariff's letter of resignation was received and approved on the same day.
"He passed the letter to me, requesting to resign from all his posts. So he is now just an ordinary member,” he added.
Anuar said Ariff previously held the posts of Amanah disciplinary chief and was a member of the experts' advisory committee.
Ariff was previously named by Malaysiakini as the frontrunner for the speaker's position alongside PKR’s Johari Abdul.
According to his official biography, Ariff started his career in 1974 as a law lecturer and subsequently became an associate professor at the Law Faculty of Universiti Malaya.
He then entered private practice as an advocate and solicitor in 1986. - Mkini
