Isn’t it amazing how many inside stories the Straits Times of Singapore has on Malaysia?
Today, it even extended to the Selangor water deal which neither the paper nor any international audience could be interested in.
We can imagine the prompt, indignant rejoinder from their high commission here if Malaysia ever ran a ‘scoop’ on, say, Singapore's utility charges increase.
For example, we could respond to their whining over our proposal to increase raw water charges to them by pointing out that it is not only Johor which marks up the price of their treated water but Singapore itself which earns many multiples over the cost which they intend to further increase!
That would invite a sturdy and prompt response, undoubtedly.
Yet, their paper seems keen to pry into our domestic affairs while being government-owned and, doubtless, directed.
Certainly, there seems to be an attempt at interfering.
I have even heard from lawyer friends about Singaporean owners disposing of their properties after the Pakatan Harapan election victory due to supposedly negative sentiments their read about of in their papers (read Straits Times).
Notwithstanding they being a neighbour and having Asean member status and all that, is it time to treat Singapore as a “hostile” nation?
This given their continued intrusion and collaboration in syphoning 1MDB funds which even a half-competent monetary authority would know was not Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 compliant and reeked of theft? - Mkini
