Former premier Najib Abdul Razak believes that his impending trial will provide him with the best opportunity to clear his name.
"I believe in my innocence.
"This is the best opportunity for me to completely clear my name after being subjected to such harsh slander and accusations," he told reporters after being released from the High Court holding room in Kuala Lumpur.
Najib also reiterated that he had accepted the fact that he would be formally charged today.
"Today I have been formally charged and it is something which I have expected because that is the desire of the new government.
"And if this is the price that I have to pay after 42 years of my service to the country, I accept it," said Najib.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the MACC for treating me in a respectful manner as a former prime minister," said Najib.
He was taken to court today from the MACC lock-up in Putrajaya where he had spent the night.
Najib, who claimed trial to four charges, has returned to his residence in Jalan Langgak Duta after posting half of the RM1 million bail.
The three counts of criminal breach of trust and one count of abuse of power are related to the SRC International case. - Mkini
