FORMER Umno president Najib Razak has called on the disloyal to leave the party, reported Sinar Harian.
Najib said following Umno’s fall from power in the 14th general election, there have been defections by those unwilling to stick with the party through thick and thin.
“There were those who declared their loyalty, but only when Umno was in power. When the party lost power, they trample on the Umno flag.
“It is better for these people to leave Umno. We only want those who are loyal, who are willing to lay down their lives for the party,” he was quoted as telling supporters in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
The former prime minister said he is saddened that there are members who have forgotten the party’s principles and struggles.
“Let us be sincere and loyal to Umno’s fight. Only then is there light at the end of the tunnel.”
In GE14, Umno and the Barisan Nasional coalition lost federal power, winning only Perlis and Pahang. Adding to the blow, Sabah and Sarawak components left BN after the polls, and three lawmakers left Umno, citing disappointment in the party.
