'Hard-working and committed' Balakong assemblyman was killed in a road accident early on Friday.
PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan leaders Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and Lim Guan Eng paid their last respects today to the late Balakong state assemblyman Eddie Ng Tien Chee, who died in a road accident early on Friday.
Ng, 40, was killed on the spot when his four-wheel-drive vehicle crashed into the back of a lorry at 12.40am on the Grand Saga Expressway.
Wan Azizah, president of Pakatan Harapan, said the coalition would provide any assistance needed by the family.
Guan Eng, who is DAP secretary-general, spent an hour with Ng’s family at the Xiao En Memorial Centre.
He said Ng, a DAP member, was very committed about his duties to the party and people in his constituency.
“Eddie is a true elected representative and the loss is greatly felt by all parties, especially the multiracial community in Balakong,” he said.
Wan Azizah, who is president of PKR, said she knew Ng well when she was assemblywoman for Kajang.
“He was committed and hardworking, someone who cares about the people,” she said, after spending half an hour with the family and paying her last respects.
Among other PH members who came were Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah, Seri Serdang assemblyman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud and Batu Pahat MP Mohd Rashid Hasnon.
Ng is survived by his wife, Loh Hwa Hong, 39, two sons Ng Chin Wee, 17, and Chin Khai, 13, and daughter Chin Shian, 15.
He had been re-elected for a second term in Balakong at the general election on May 9.
Another by-election will be called in Selangor, the second in about nine weeks since the general election.
A by-election is currently being held in Sungai Kandis, caused by the death of Mat Shuhaimi Shafiei from cancer. - FMT
