KUALA LUMPUR: The death of a baby boy in Tangkak, Johor, while under a minder’s care is to be brought up in Parliament, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said today.
She said the women and family development ministry had held discussions with the Attorney-General’s Chambers about tightening laws relating to child welfare and abuse.
She expressed her sorrow at the death of Naufal Amsyar Nabil Fikri, 10 months, four days after he was taken to hospital with bruises and a fractured skull.
“We (the ministry) will examine the laws and regulations that can be tightened to ensure the tragedy would not be repeated,” she said.
Naufal’s death is the second case of an infant’s death reported this month.
The body of five-month-old Adam Rayqal Mohd Sufi Naeif was found stuffed inside a refrigerator freezer compartment in a house in Batu Caves on July 3.
He had been reported missing from the house of a babysitter.
The babysitter has been charged with child abuse and disposing of the body to conceal his death. - FMT
