PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan will be campaigning against the Pakatan Harapan candidate in the coming Sungai Kandis by-election as he says the latter must not be allowed to win.
Even so, he refused to openly state if PAS was asking supporters to vote for BN candidate Lokman Noor Adam, but hinted that they should know the right choice to make.
“Our stand is we want Harapan to lose in Kandis. Does anyone disagree?
“If you agree that (Harapan) must lose, then what more do PAS voters in Sungai Kandis want?
“We shouldn’t have to teach ABC. The rakyat in front of me are all very intelligent,” he said in his speech at the Himpunan Kebangkitan Ummah rally today.
Nasruddin’s speech was greeted by cries of “vote Umno” from the thousand-strong crowd at the Kuala Lumpur rally – endorsed by 300 Malay-Muslim NGOs for the protection of race and religion.
Besides Nasruddin, several PAS leaders were in attendance, including secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, central committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz and ulama treasurer Khairudin Aman Razali.
In his speech, Takiyuddin told the crowd that he hoped the present Harapan government would be immediately voted out in the next general election.
“We will make sure that if the people can elect a new government, then the people can also bring the new government down,” he said.
Also at the event were Lokman, Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dasuki, former Federal Territories Umno chief Razlan Rafii and former minister Rais Yatim, who joined Bersatu last month.
However, Asyraf remained coy when asked later about PAS campaigning in Sungai Kandis, only telling reporters: “Meet me in Sungai Kandis this evening, we will see each other there.”
Former premier Najib Abdul Razak made his second appearance in the state seat this morning, while former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin is expected to join the campaign later today.
The Sungai Kandis polls on Aug 4 will see a three-cornered fight between Lokman, Harapan’s Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni, and independent K Murthy.
The Selangor state seat fell vacant after the death of assemblyperson Mat Shuhaimi Shafie on July 2 from lymphoma.
