DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has urged former premier Najib Abdul Razak to reveal the number of times and the locations he had met 1MDB-linked businessperson Jho Low following the US Department of Justice's (DOJ) civil forfeiture suits.
"Make it public.. and state the substance and nature of these meetings with Low," Lim said in a statement, adding that this would be in the interest of transparency.
Lim also questioned whether Najib had asked Low about the Equanimity yacht when both of them allegedly met.
"Isn’t it true that Najib had met Jho Low after the DOJ expanded filings (in June 2017) specifically naming the Equanimity yacht as one of the 1MDB-linked assets?
"Did he ask Jho Low about the Equanimity yacht which had become international news?"
In an exclusive interview with Malaysiakini, Najib said he had communicated with Low after allegations against the latter had surfaced.
However, he said this was "some time ago" and that he did not ask about the yacht at that time as he was not aware of its existence.
Low is a key figure in the 1MDB scandal.
The DOJ claimed in its suits that the businessperson was involved in multiple instances where 1MDB funds were allegedly misappropriated.
Among others, he is accused of spending US$250 million allegedly misappropriated by 1MDB to purchase the Equanimity. - Mkini
