Zahid: Officer mistakenly used foundation's cheque to pay my credit card bills

PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic) says an officer mistakenly used a cheque belonging to a foundation to pay credit card bills of himself and his wife.

He also said that he told Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) investigators that he had already repaid the money to the foundation.

The Umno president said that repayment was made in 2016 after he realised there was a mistake.

"I received the credit card bills and passed it to my officer to make the payment. But he made a mistake by using money from the foundation. When I realised there was a mistake, I made the repayment using my own money," he said.

.Dr Ahmad Zahid said this on Tuesday (July 3) when speaking to reporters while leaving the MACC headquarters here.

However, he did not disclose the amount, but repeated that he had fully repaid all the money to the foundation in 2016.

He said he disclosed all necessary documents to MACC investigators as well as a photocopy of the cheque used to make the repayment.

Dr Ahmad Zahid arrived at the MACC office at 2.45pm on Tuesday to answer questions on the use of the funds belonging to a foundation of which he is the chairman.- Star
