Former AmBank relationship manager Joanna Yu’s application to strike out Najib Abdul Razak’s suit against her and the bank over the alleged mishandling of the former prime minister's bank accounts will come up for hearing before the Kuala Lumpur High Court on April 15.
If Yu’s application is unsuccessful, then Najib’s main legal action will come up for full hearing for four days from Dec 14.
This was confirmed by Najib’s counsel Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee when met at the Kuala Lumpur High Court Complex at Jalan Duta this morning.
Farhan was explaining the outcome from the case management of Yu’s striking-out bid in the chambers of High Court judge Khadijah Idris this morning.
“The hearing for the striking-out (bid by Yu) is on April 15 this year,” Farhan said, adding that should the court dismiss the striking-out bid, then Najib’s main suit will be heard from Dec 14 to 17 this year.
“The judge (Khadijah) has (also) directed that should the first and second defendants (AmBank Holdings Bhd and AmBank Islamic Bank Bhd respectively) want to also file strikeouts (against Najib’s suit), to do so by March 2,” he said.
In regards to whether Yu had filed her statement of defence against Najib’s suit, Farhan said she had not as she would file her defence after disposal of the striking out application.
He added that Yu is focusing on the striking-out bid first.
Counsel Gurdial Singh Nijar appeared for Yu while Samuel Tan appeared for AmBank and AmIslamic Bank today.
On Jan 29, it was reported that Yu has filed an application to strike out Najib’s suit over the alleged revealing of his banking information to 1MDB-linked fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho, also known as Jho Low.
On Dec 10 last year, it was reported that Najib filed the suit against Yu, AmBank and AmIslamic Bank. - Mkini
