A court hearing over a charge for alleged sedition would be an opportunity to subpoena various individuals, including Johor crown prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, said Tamrin Abdul Ghafar.
Speaking to reporters after being summoned for questioning at Bukit Aman this morning, Tamrin (above), son of the late former deputy prime minister Ghafar Baba, said he would prefer for the case to be brought to court.
He was questioned under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act 1948 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
"I said (during the questioning) I would prefer if this case is taken to court, so I can subpoena all these people," he said.
"When I have to defend myself, then I have to also call TMJ," said Tamrin who was questioned over his writing critical of the crown prince.
Tamrin's lawyer Mohd Azharul Ab Talib said a police report was lodged in Majidee, Johor, against a Facebook post that quoted his client's name as the writer of an article dated Feb 1 and originally published on his personal blog.
The Facebook page is believed to be a fan page for Tamrin.
"I don't have Facebook. I don't know how to use Facebook," he said.
The article, which criticised Tunku Ismail's position against Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad was titled "TMJ - Bodoh Sombong Yang Tak Boleh Diajar" (TMJ - An ignorant person who cannot be taught)"
Tamrin also hinted that he will not stop writing despite being probed.
"Following what happened today, I will write a new article titled ‘Saya ke Bukit Aman sekali lagi' (I went to Bukit Aman once again)," said Tamrin, who was acquitted of another sedition charge last year.
Quizzed on his latest political move, Tamrin merely smiled and said, "Nobody wants me.
"But I think that's better because at least today I am a free man," said the former Umno Batu Berendam MP from 1986 to 1995. - Mkini
