CORONAVIRUS | The four-year-old girl who recovered from the novel coronavirus in Langkawi yesterday did so without any special drugs.
Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad (photo) explained that the Wuhan virus is self-limiting disease which will eventually be overcome by a healthy immune system.
As such, he said treatment for the coronavirus patients are only to alleviate symptoms.
"We didn't use any other drugs, HIV drugs and so on," he said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.
The girl from China had tested positive for the virus on Jan 29.
She was released after repeated tests, 24 hours apart, showed that she no longer had the virus.
Dzulkefly said the Chinese embassy in Malaysia were making arrangements for her and her family to return home.
Doctors in Thailand, the US and other countries are currently experimenting with anti-HIV drugs, among others, in an effort to cure the Wuhan virus.
492 people have died from the virus so far, while near 24,000 people have been infected.
