The revived issue of teaching mathematics and science in English (PPSMI) is probably an attempt to divert attention from the internal problems of Pakatan Harapan parties, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.
Hadi (above) said the matter had not been formally decided and that the official position of the Harapan government had yet to be discussed.
"Let's wait (and see) later. Harapan has yet to determine its position (on the PPSMI recommendation).
"This issue might have been introduced to cover up the internal problems of Haparan parties," he told a press conference after delivering the keynote speech at a function in conjunction with "30 years of development under Islam" in Kota Bharu last night.
PAS has headed the Kelantan state government for 30 years.
The key Harapan party facing internal problems is PKR which has seen vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin hauled up by its disciplinary board amidst a schism between supporters of party president Anwar Ibrahim and his deputy Azmin Ali.
The reintroduction of PPSMI was recently proposed by Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
However, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail clarified that discussions to reinstate the policy were still in the initial stages.
Hadi himself said the federal government had yet to make a formal decision on the matter.
"It has not yet been confirmed as an official policy, it's just a long-standing issue," he said.
