Kelantan gov’t should hold Mercedes parade, proposes Amanah man

Following a “misunderstanding” over its float parade last week, the Kelantan government has been asked to hold a second parade featuring the official cars of top leaders.
Speaking to Malaysiakini, Kelantan Amanah Youth chief Hazmi Hassan sarcastically proposed that the 14 Mercedes Benz cars belonging to Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob and other state executive councillors (exco) be used.
The state government previously came under fire for the extravagant expense.
“I read media reports of the Kelantan tourism exco apologising for the misunderstanding over the float parade organised during the recent launch of Visit Kelantan Year 2020.

“He (Md Anizam Ab Rahman) also said that he could organise another special parade if the people want it.
“I propose that the parade be held, it would be even better if we could have a parade featuring decorated Mercedes Benz,” he said.
Not only would the rakyat be able to marvel at the taxpayer-funded German vehicles, Hazmi calculated that the parade would not cost much.
“I hope the state government will be able to hold the show as I’m sure the people will use the opportunity to take a close look at their leader’s cars.
“It won’t cost a lot because they will only need to use the exco’s official cars, which have already been purchased. They will just need to decorate them.
“This will be able to cure the disappointment faced by the thousands of visitors who attended the Visit Kelantan Year 2020 launch,” he said.
Visit Kelantan Year 2020 was launched last Saturday with a short float parade featuring 10 cars representing each district.
However, road closures ahead of the event had led people to anticipate a large-scale parade that would travel from the launch venue, a stadium, out onto the roads.
Many allegedly showed up to watch the parade but were disappointed when they saw no floats.
Netizens later took to social media to express their dissatisfaction over the event. - Mkini
