Nizar to initiate bankruptcy proceedings against PAS leader

Perak Amanah deputy chief Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin will move to initiate bankruptcy proceedings against Perak PAS commissioner Razman Zakaria, after the latter's admission of failure to pay RM200,000 in damages as ordered by a court.
Nizar's lawyer Mohd Fitri Asmuni told Malaysiakini he had received instructions from his client to not allow for further delays in payment of the damages.
"I have been instructed to initiate bankruptcy proceedings.
"Yes, soonest," he said.

Fitri said no further extensions could be granted to the Gunung Semanggol assemblyperson after the latter had exhausted all of his appeals in court.
"Now this is already the next stage which is implementation (of the decision).
"Even if he (Razman) wanted to fight the bankruptcy proceedings, that is just a technical matter," he added.
Last November, the Court of Appeal upheld the Ipoh High Court's decision to order Razman to pay Nizar RM200,000 in damages over the article.
A three-member bench comprising Justices Badariah Sahamid, Hasnah Mohammed Hashim and Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal, in a unanimous decision, had dismissed Razman's appeal.
Justice Badariah, who chaired the bench, said the court found no merit in the appeal, adding that there was no error in the High Court judge's findings which warranted the appellate court's intervention.
She also ordered Razman to pay RM10,000 in costs to Nizar, who is also a former Perak menteri besar.
Nizar filed an RM3 million suit against Razman in 2016, claiming the latter's statement was defamatory and had tarnished his image as a politician. - Mkini
