No to polls, say pro-PH army vets

Patriot president Mohamed Arshad Raji says a snap election will be too costly for the country at a time of economic meltdown.
PETALING JAYA: The group of armed forces veterans known as Patriot has rejected calls for fresh elections in the wake of the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government.
Its president Mohamed Arshad Raji also threw his support behind the former ruling coalition which was dealt a blow after the exit of PPBM and several MPs aligned to sacked PKR leader Azmin Ali
He claimed that PH, now consisting of PKR, DAP and Amanah, was the “most united group” and enjoyed a majority
“Patriot implores MPs from PPBM, Warisan and Gabungan Parti Sarawak, those with principles, join PH and help form the government,” he said, adding that Dr Mahathir Mohamad should lead the new coalition in the interim.
Patriot also said it was against a snap election, and slammed those calling for it as “unwise and selfish”.
“A general election at this time will send our economy to a tailspin and hasten an economic recession,” it added.
“A government must quickly be formed and PH should be given the chance to lead again. Umno that had sabotaged our economy and nearly brought our nation to ruins must not be allowed to rule again.”
Since yesterday, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah has been meeting MPs across parties as he charts a solution to fill the power void in Putrajaya.
The Agong will today interview the remaining 132 MPs, following his meetings with 90 MPs from Barisan Nasional, GPS and PAS yesterday.
This followed Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s shocking resignation as prime minister on Monday, dealing a blow to the two-year-old Pakatan Harapan government which came to power after the 2018 elections.
Mahathir is currently the interim prime minister pending the creation of a new bloc which has the majority in the Dewan Rakyat. - FMT
