PETALING JAYA: All Umno division chiefs nationwide have been summoned to a special meeting on Thursday (Feb 27).
On Twitter, Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa (pic) announced that all its division chiefs nationwide have been called to Kuala Lumpur for a special meeting with its president and its supreme council members at 3pm at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.
Malaysia is currently in political turmoil following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan government, when 26 MPs from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and 11 from PKR left the coalition.
Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced his resignation as prime minister on Monday (Feb 24) following which the Yang di-Pertuan Agong then appointed Dr Mahathir as interim Prime Minister to allow him to continue managing the country.
Barisan Nasional and PAS have called for Parliament to be dissolved to give way to an election due to the current political uncertainty.
However, Dr Mahathir in a televised address said that he wished to lead a non-partisan administration which prioritises the national interest.
Pakatan then nominated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the candidate prime minister after Dr Mahathir had failed to turn up for a meeting to revive the coalition.
