GEORGE TOWN: The heavens finally opened up, and Penangites welcomed the cool temperatures that came with the downpour after having endured weeks of hot and dry weather.
The rain, which started at around 6pm on Tuesday (Feb 11), drenched the streets and filled the drains with water, both on the island and mainland.
It was notably heavy in Farlim and Bayan Lepas.
The Meteorological Department in a statement said the rain, coupled with thunderstorms in several areas across the country, was expected to last until 9pm.
Perlis, Penang, parts of Kedah, Perak, Pahang, Negri Sembilan, Johor, Sabah and Sarawak were all expected to experience rainfall.
Dams in Penang, namely Air Itam, Teluk Bahang and Mengkuang, which are currently at 50.7%, 33% and 72.8% respectively, are expected to get a boost. -Star
