CORONAVIRUS | Two more Malaysians have tested positive for the novel coronavirus today bringing the total in the country to 12 cases, including the patient who recovered yesterday.
Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad (above) said two of them were Malaysians who had been brought back from Wuhan, China.
However, they were not the two individuals who failed a screening test yesterday.
Lab tests for those two have turned up negative for the Wuhan virus, Dzulkefly said.
Instead, the two who have tested positive are among those placed in a surveillance centre after the initial screening.
They are a 45-year-old father and his 9-year-old son, whom Dzulkefly said were asymptomatic.
Yesterday, another Malaysian had tested positive for the Wuhan virus after returning from Singapore.
Dzulkefly said 35 people whom the 41-year-old patient had close contact with have been traced, and samples taken from them.
They have been placed under home surveillance pending lab test results, under the close watch of Health Ministry officers.
Seventy-four other close contacts with the patient have been identified and will be traced.
Separately, the minister confirmed that a Canadian teenager had been transferred by health officers in Hazmat suits from the Twin Towers Medical Centre at KLCC and brought to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for testing.
The teenager, who had arrived from Indonesia yesterday, had collapsed earlier in the day.
Malaysiakini understands that the teenager has no symptoms, but Dzulkefly said health officials are taking necessary precautions and steps.
So far 291 people, including 113 Malaysians have tested negative for the disease.

Dzulkefly has promised transparency in how the government handles the situation and will not withhold any information pertinent to public knowledge.
