KOTA KINABALU: A video on social media of children bathing and running around naked at a decorative fountain in the city centre here has drawn criticism from Datuk Loretto Padua.
The Parti Warisan Sabah secretary-general said such actions are uncalled for and regrettable.
“I hope the authorities, including the police, city council, and Immigration Department, will use whatever laws they have to stop such incidents from happening, ” he said.
He said letting these children misuse public property and then running around like that can cause unease among the public including tourists.
“It is also very dangerous for the children and road users, ” Padua said as the fountain serves as a roundabout at a busy intersection.
He urged the public and authorities to help stop these kinds of negative activities that could tarnish the image of Sabah.
He said the tourism industry is already suffering due to the novel coronavirus outbreak and the fake news that comes with it.
Incidents of people bathing in this fountain have occurred from time to time, mostly among street children and the mentally ill.
There was also an incident where tourists were seen taking a dip in the fountain.
Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to contact Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Habibi Majinji on this matter. -Star
