EC's preparedness to hold general election to be raised in Parliament today

The Election Commission’s (EC) preparedness to face a possible general election will be among matters that will be raised in the Dewan Rakyat sitting today.

Based on the agenda of the meeting, Mahdzir Khalid (BN-Padang Terap) is scheduled to submit questions on the issue to the prime minister in an oral question and answer session.

Mahdzir will also ask on the development of a proposal to apply electronic voting (e-voting) as an alternative to the conventional voting method for safety reasons during the post-Covid-19 period.

The coronavirus pandemic continues to be given attention, with Mukhriz Mahathir (IND-Jerlun) expected to ask the international trade and industry minister about the government’s strategy to restore trade and economic activities.

Azizah Mohd Dun (Bersatu-Beaufort) is expected to ask the prime minister about the government's commitment to addressing the issue of integrity and corruption during the Ministers’ Question Time as soon as the Dewan Rakyat convenes at 10am.

The Parliament sitting, which enters its fourth day today, will also continue the debate on the motion of thanks to the royal address by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The current Dewan Rakyat sitting, which will be for 25 days until Aug 27, is held during the new normal and is abiding by prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
