The government has yet to receive the final report with proposed parliamentary reforms from the Electoral Reform Committee (ERC), said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
"The ERC is expected to present its final report to the prime minister at the latest by the end of August," said Muhyiddin in a written parliamentary reply to Khoo Phoay Tiong (Harapan-Kota Melaka).
Khoo had enquired on the current status of the report and whether the government would reveal its recommendations in order to allow for public feedback.
ERC chairperson Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman had in January presented its interim report to then prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The report is based on 21 stakeholders' engagement sessions over 16 months since the ERC was set in August 2018, as part of Harapan's larger institutional reform agenda after coming into federal power.
Malaysiakini previously reported that among ERC's proposals is the introduction of a proportional representation system by states at the federal level.
The current government's five-year term will formally expire in May 2022, but current political upheavals have reportedly seen both the ruling and opposition coalition making preparations towards facing possible snap polls. - Mkini
