Police have identified the suspect who had slandered Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh through a fake statement attributed to her for which she was probed for under the Sedition Act.
Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador said police have interviewed Yeoh and recorded a statement from the suspect.
"We have identified who slandered her and the person will be charged," said Hamid.
"The police will stand for anyone who has been victimised, whether politicians or others [...] We will ensure the law is enforced in the most just manner," he said.
Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Huzir Mohamed previously said Yeoh is being probed under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 505(c) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The fake statement attributed to Yeoh contains offensive content related to Islam and child marriage.
Three victims came forward
Meanwhile, Hamid also revealed that three victims of alleged sexual assault by an NGO activist has come forward to assist in ongoing police investigations into the case.
"We have received a report and investigation papers have been opened.
"The person accused has had his statement recorded. Serious allegations were made and we are investigating it," he said.
It was reported last night that KL police had moved to arrest the NGO activist, following a report lodged by a trainee doctor who claimed he was sexually assaulted on Nov 4 last year.
According to the trainee doctor's report on Feb 17, the activist, who is also a doctor, had "groped and kissed" the complainant on the first day the latter reported for work.
Prior to his arrest, the activist had denied similar allegations against him, accusing one complainant of having an axe to grind after losing a civil suit.
Malaysiakini is withholding the name of the activist as the case has not been brought to court and to protect the identities of the complainants. - Mkini
