The Umno supreme council has set Nov 27 and 28 for its 2020 annual general assembly (AGM), after party meetings have been given the green light to proceed by the authorities following the Covid-19 outbreak.
Announcing the dates on Instagram, Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said the assembly would abide by any standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government at that time.
The 74th AGM will be held at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, Ahmad said the party has set Nov 26 for the assemblies of its Women’s, Youth and Puteri wings, with the officiating ceremony for all three assemblies to be held the night before.
Ahmad further announced that Umno state divisions will hold their annual conventions from Nov 1 to Nov 23.
“States who have completed their division meetings earlier can hold their convention earlier.
“Umno, Wanita (Women’s), Youth and Puteri branches that have not had their meetings, can do so from July 15 to Aug 21… division representatives’ meetings from Sept 15 to Oct 31.
“The number of attendees cannot exceed 250 people. Detailed SOP can be referred to at the ROS website,” Ahmad said, adding that "official notification letters will be sent out tomorrow (today), July 7.”
Due to the Covid-19 health crisis, the Registrar of Societies (ROS) had in March suspended all organisation activities untilJune 30.
The Perikatan Nasional government later imposed the movement control order (MCO) and conditional MCO to contain the spread of the virus.
However, the country has slowly begun reopening businesses and activities in the recovery MCO phase which began on June 10 and which is subject to new conditions including the number of people permitted, hygiene measures, and body temperature checks in light of new normal practices. - Mkini
