PETALING JAYA: The immigration department is looking for a Bangladesh national featured in an Al Jazeera programme on migrants which has landed the satellite broadcaster on the receiving end of a sedition probe.
In a statement today, the department identified the man as Md Rayhan Kabir, 25.
The department said it was looking for Rayhan in relation to its investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Police yesterday said they had begun investigations into Al Jazeera following a report lodged by the immigration department.
The news channel had broadcast a 25-minute report titled “Locked up in Malaysia’s Lockdown” on its 101 East programme last Friday.
Hamid said the video alleged that Malaysia had discriminated against illegal immigrants. He also said it was inaccurate.
Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob meanwhile said Al Jazeera should apologise to the people while immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud warned that foreign nationals would have their passes revoked for inaccurate statements aimed at damaging the country’s image. - FMT
