PETALING JAYA: Police have busted a prostitution ring here which used a massage parlour as its front here.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal (pic) said a police team raided the premises on Jalan PJU 3/29, Kota Damansara, at around 8.30pm on Wednesday (July 15).
"We arrested a 41-year-old man believed to be the caretaker and checks revealed he had three records for immigration offences.
"Further checks led to the arrest of three foreign women aged from 27 to 32," he said in a statement on Thursday (July 16).
He said police also found RM216 in cash, personal care items and condoms.
"Our investigations revealed the premises had been offering prostitution services for over two years and was closed during the movement control order.
"They reopened for business in May and used the WeChat mobile app for customers to make bookings and offered services at RM200 per hour," he said, adding that the male suspect was remanded for four days, while the women were remanded for 14 days.
On another matter, ACP Nik Ezanee said police conducted a series of raids on the same day from 3pm to 6pm, focusing on illegal lottery syndicates in Damansara and Sungai Way.
"We arrested two locals and two foreigners aged from 32 to 36 and found cash and other paraphernalia used in illegal lottery operations.
"We believe the syndicates could rake in at least RM1,000 in profits daily," he said, adding that all suspects were remanded for four days.
On yet another unrelated matter, ACP Nik Ezanee said police arrested a 26-year-old man at a house on Jalan PJS 8/9 here for suspected involvement in online gambling operations at around 8.10pm on the same day.
"During the arrest, the suspect turned aggressive and punched a policeman.
"My personnel had to use minimum force to subdue the suspect," he said, adding that they found a mobile phone believed to be used in online gambling.
He said the syndicate was capable of earning RM3,000 in profits daily.
"Investigations revealed the suspect used the KISS 918 mobile app in his operations.
"We have remanded the suspect for four days," he said. - Star
