PKR to unveil new women’s wing heads after chief sacked, deputy defected

Malaysiakini

PKR is to set to fill the posts of its women's wing chief and deputy chief after the recent sacking of Lembah Jaya assemblyperson Haniza Talha and defection of Sementa assemblyperson Dr Daroyah Alwi.
Batu Tiga assemblyperson Rodziah Ismail, who previously contested and lost the women's wing deputy chief post against Daroyah, said her name is among six leaders nominated for the top spot.
Other candidates include Fuziah Salleh, who lost against Haniza, Elizabeth Wong and Gan Pei Nei.
Speaking to reporters at the party’s headquarters today, Rodziah said the final decision will be made in a week or two by PKR's central leadership council.
"We leave the decision for PKR president Anwar Ibrahim to discuss among the political bureau or MPP.
"It should be in a week or two," said the former political secretary to Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as the then deputy prime minister.
Daroyah (below), who is also Selangor state assembly deputy speaker, had announced her decision to quit PKR on June 13.
Meanwhile, Haniza was sacked from PKR on June 28, along with three other leaders aligned to PKR former deputy president Azmin Ali.
Rodziah further said while the two positions were previously filled through an election process, this time it would be done via appointment due to the nature of the vacancies.
"There is a small clause in our party constitution on extraordinary vacancies.
"That means there are no chief and deputy chief. What is left now is only the vice-chiefs," she said.
According to Rodziah, a vacant deputy chief post can be filled by a vice-chief, but the top spot cannot be filled by the number two leader.
"So we gave the mandate (to appoint) to the central leaders and they have accepted to deliberate on the candidates," she said.
Rodziah added that a decision must be made urgently and it would be too time-consuming to hold elections for all PKR members throughout the nation. - Mkini
