The Sabah Education Department has rescinded its invitation for Chief Minister Shafie Apdal to officiate the state's Teachers' Day event scheduled for today.
The invitation by Sabah Education Department director Mistirine Radin was received by the Sabah Chief Minister's Office on July 7, only to be withdrawn a day later.
Mistirine's invitation withdrawal letter, sighted by Malaysiakini, said the invitation to Shafie (above) had to be rescinded because of "reasons which could not be avoided".
Free Malaysia Today reported that Mistirine declined to comment on the matter.
The Warisan-ruled Sabah has come under increasing pressure from Putrajaya since the federal government changed hands in March.
On June 11, state cabinet member and Warisan vice-president Peter Anthony was charged with money laundering. He will face a related graft charge tomorrow (July 10).
Both charges are related to an alleged corrupt land deal that is said to have taken place sometime between July 2014 and November 2015.
Anthony had claimed that the charges against him were politically motivated.
Yesterday, Kuamut lawmaker Masiung Banah's (above) home was raided by the authorities.
His wife Grace E Ebin uploaded on social media photographs of enforcement officials rummaging through their home.
According to Borneo Today, the enforcement officials came to their home without prior notice.
Malaysiakini is attempting to seek comment from the relevant enforcement body. - Mkini
