Wild homestay party: 76 arrested in Kluang, drugs seized

KLUANG: Police have arrested 76 people for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO) by attending a “wild party” at a homestay along Jalan Delima here.
Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Abduh Ismail said the suspects, including 20 females, were aged between 15 and 35.
He added that police raided the homestay at around 1.30am Sunday (July 5). Thirty-eight of those detained tested positive for drugs.
“Police also seized 1.8g ketamine, 1.8g ganja and 21 Erimin 5 pills, worth RM840, from three male suspects at the scene.
“All the suspects were busy partying and dancing to loud music and did not realise that a team of policemen were outside the premises before the arrests were made, ” he said in a statement here Sunday.
He said their act was a violation of Rule 11(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 for breaching the recovery MCO and being at a premises without social distancing.
ACP Mohd Abduh said investigations revealed that the organisers had requested payment of RM30 for each person who attended the party.
“The suspects attending the party got the information from a WhatsApp group and the majority of them are from Batu Pahat, including the organisers.
“We would like to advise homestay owners to know who they are renting their property to and for parents to be aware of their children's activities, ” he said.
ACP Mohd Abduh added that all of the suspects were remanded until July 8 to assist with investigations under Section 39A, Section 12(2), Section 6, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - Star
