Media gathers at Istana in advance of PM's audience with Agong

Members of the media have been camping outside the gates of the Istana Negara from as early as 7.30am following reports that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob will be meeting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this afternoon.

Although it is not certain whether Ismail Sabri will seek permission to dissolve Parliament from the Agong, he is scheduled to appear at the Istana at 4pm as part of his routine weekly audience with the king.

A source from Putrajaya also told Malaysiakini that the premier is expected to seek an audience with the Agong at 4.30pm today.

Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah this morning went to visit the National Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (PRABN), which comes amidst Umno top brass clamouring for Ismail Sabri to dissolve Parliament immediately.

However, Perikatan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan are in favour of having the 15th general election only after the northeast monsoon season, which lasts from November to March.

It is understood that the Agong was briefed on the year-end weather and flood situation by Environment and Water Ministry chief secretary Zaini Ujang and Meteorological Department director-general Muhammad Helmi Abdullah.

The media stationed outside the Istana said no one has come out to greet them thus far and that the only activity was the gates opening for the Agong to leave for his visit to PRABN. - Mkini
