Alor Setar incumbent MP not nominated for any seat

PKR’s incumbent Alor Setar MP Chan Ming Kai has revealed that he will not be contesting in any seat in the 15th general election.

In a statement, he said he has been informed by his party that he will not be nominated for any seat, including Alor Setar.

“Thanks to all my friends, I have been informed that I am no longer nominated by the party for any seat in the GE.

“I have always responded to our leadership’s call to explore rural seats, (and) I had suggested making a way in existing seats for new people and challenge seats that have not yet been won or betrayed - such as Bagan DatukPagohGombak or Ampang.

“But the party's decision so far is to propose a new replacement candidate in the Alor Setar seat only,” Chan (above) said.

Served party for 20 years

Chan - who had served in the party for 20 years - said he respects and accepts the party’s decision to not field him.

“Thank you to all the people and party members who have supported me throughout my 20 years of service from Perak to Perlis to Kedah. Reformasi!” he said.

Chan previously served two terms as assemblyperson, in Simpang Pulai (2008-2013), and then Indera Kayangan (2013-2018).

PKR is set to reveal its finalised candidate list on Oct 28.

Earlier this month, party deputy president Rafizi announced a new website allowing Malaysians to nominate themselves as a candidate of his party for GE15.

The initiative is intended to enable PKR to “widen its talent pool”.

Nominees will be assessed based on their strength of machinery, social media influence, and role in the party among other key areas and skills.

Within each seat, five top candidates will be shortlisted. PKR president Anwar Ibrahim and Rafizi, who is also the election director of the party, will deliberate. - Mkini
