PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi has accused Amirudin Shari of twisting Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah’s words regarding the dissolution of the state assembly.
In a statement, the Rengit assemblyman said Amirudin’s actions were disrespectful and that the Selangor menteri besar, as well as PKR, must apologise over the issue.
This comes after Sultan Sharafuddin’s private secretary, Munir Bani, said there was inaccurate information going around about the decision not to dissolve the state assembly.
Munir said Amirudin, a PKR vice-president, had never sought the Selangor ruler’s consent for the dissolution of the state legislative assembly during his audience on Oct 11.
On Tuesday, Amirudin said the Sultan of Selangor wanted the current Pakatan Harapan state government to complete its full term. This means the election for state seats in Selangor will only be held next year.
Puad pointed out that this was not the first time PKR had done something like this in Selangor, citing the Kajang Move in 2014.
The move was engineered by then PKR strategic director Rafizi Ramli in an attempt to topple then Selangor menteri besar, the late Khalid Ibrahim, and replace him with party president Anwar Ibrahim.
“The Kajang Move caused political instability in the state and was simply for political ambition,” he said, adding that it was a short-term measure by Rafizi to ensure Anwar could become prime minister.
The Kajang Move later resulted in Azmin Ali being appointed menteri besar after Khalid lost the support of the state assembly. - FMT
