PETALING JAYA: PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has rubbished claims by Umno Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki that the Islamic party decided to stick with Perikatan Nasional (PN) for the next general election (GE15) due to Bersatu’s offer of 47 winnable seats.
He said Asyraf also broke his promise not to reveal a photo of a closed-door discussion last Friday between Tuan Ibrahim, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and Umno deputy president Mohamad Hassan.
“It’s not true, he’s bluffing. He wasn’t even involved in that meeting.
“In fact, we reminded him not to post the photo he captured, because it was a private meeting. He’s gone back on his word. Only four people were privy to the details of that discussion, and the issue of 47 seats was not raised,” he said, according to Sinar Harian.
On Friday, Asyraf said discussions on strengthening Muafakat Nasional (MN), the pact forged between Umno and PAS, should go beyond seat allocations for GE15.
This follows PAS’ revelation that it was offered 47 winnable seats by Bersatu if the Islamic party remained with PN in the upcoming polls.
Asyraf claimed the offer for seats was revealed by PAS after the meeting on Friday between the Umno leaders, just a day before the Islamic party confirmed it would remain with PN.
He went on to say that Umno was more than prepared to revive its alliance with PAS under MN, which was established in 2019 to woo the Malay-Muslim electorate.
This was despite PAS stabbing Umno in the back by agreeing to set up PN with Bersatu, an Umno splinter party that was formed in 2016. - FMT
