PETALING JAYA: Azmin Ali has indicated he will defend the Gombak parliamentary seat in the 15th general election by saying he is prepared to continue serving Gombak constituents. Azmin said he would leave it to the people of Gombak to make the “right and responsible” decision as it was a democratic process to elect a representative for the constituency.
“I have been in Gombak for a long time, the people know me. They know my capabilities and devotion.
“I’m ready to continue serving the people of Gombak,” he said on the Agenda Awani programme last night.
The Bersatu Supreme Council member said he welcomed the challenge of facing any candidate for the seat, adding that it was part of the democratic process.
Azmin was a three-term MP for Gombak. In the last general election in 2018, the former PKR deputy president won with a 48,721 majority vote.
In February 2020, he led 10 PKR MPs in defecting to Bersatu, in what has come to be known as the Sheraton Move.
It saw the fall of the Pakatan Harapan government after just 22 months in power and the rise of the Perikatan Nasional administration led by Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin. - FMT
