Bersatu co-founder Rais Hussin has officially joined PKR, the party president Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
In a press conference held at the PKR headquarters, Anwar announced his party has also accepted the membership of Mohamed Jidi Yaakob, who used to be a leader in Bera Umno division and one of Ismail Sabri Yaakob's right-hand men there.
"Today, I would like to take the opportunity during this presser to announce the entry of Rais as a new PKR member.
"I also want to welcome Mohamed Jidi Yaakob, who is a former Umno grassroots leader in Bera, which is the division being led by our caretaker prime minister. He was with Bersatu before this," Anwar said.
Just last week, Rais announced his departure from Bersatu, a party which he co-founded with several others in 2015.
However, Bersatu has denied that Rais is one of the persons who founded the party.
Speaking to reporters, Rais said he is thankful to the PKR leadership for accepting him as a member and said that he chose the party as it would become a platform in helping bring solutions to the rakyat's problems.
"Today we want to talk about what is going to happen, going forward. I think Malaysia is at a tipping point, where the situation - economy and daily life - are all at a critical level.
"We know that the ringgit is going down, despite the finance minister denying that we have economic problems. To me, I believe the country should focus on the 'tummy economy' - cost of living, affordable healthcare, quality education, employment and housing."
Jidi, meanwhile, said he decided to leave Umno and joined Bersatu in 2015 after a fallout with Ismail Sabri, whom he alleged is a leader "who is only good at making promises".
However, Jidi then decided to quit Bersatu as he disagreed with party president Muhyiddin Yassin's action in taking Bersatu out of the Harapan coalition.
"It took me a long time to deliberate before joining PKR. I decided to join Anwar after looking at his principles, which he has been consistent with, unlike other parties," Jidi said.
Harapan to launch manifesto
Meanwhile, during the presser, Anwar said Harapan would launch the coalition's manifesto for GE15 during its convention in Ipoh on Oct 20.
According to Anwar, Harapan's manifesto would not be lengthy and the leadership would not make unachievable promises.
"It would be like what the Quran states - promising that we can do our best. But we have core issues in the manifesto.
"They are on the issues of cost of living, quality education, affordable healthcare, employment and to stop corruption," the PKR president added. - Mkini
