PETALING JAYA: Police have detained the parents of two children who were spotted playing on the ledge of a condominium’s balcony.
A 10-second video of the incident has since gone viral. Worried neighbours at the condominium in Taman Setapak can be heard frantically urging the children to sit down and remain where they were.
Wangsa Maju district police officer Ashari Abu Samah said initial investigations by the Kuala Lumpur police’s sexual, women, and child investigation division found that the children’s parents were at home at the time and were unaware of the incident.
He also said the incident is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which deals with children being neglected, abandoned, or exposed in a manner likely to cause them physical or emotional injury.
If found guilty, the parents can be fined up to RM20,000 or jailed for a maximum of 10 years, or both.
Ashari reminded parents not to leave their children unsupervised. - FMT
